‘You have to enjoy what you do, and move forward with a victorious mindset,’ smiles 19-year old skier Anna Mkhitaryan as she locks her boots into her skis. In a few minutes, she’ll compete in the first SES Cross-Country Cup.

It’s the first international ski tournament held in Armenia since the country gained its independence in 1991, and the athletes are a little nervous: participating in a tournament in their homeland comes with a lot of responsibility. Armenia has a rich history of skiing rooted in its Soviet past, and today, the country is slowly trying to reestablish its winter traditions. Hosting the SES Cross-Country Cup is a significant step in this direction.
